The Catholic Church in Europe has lived with joy and hope the Jubilee Year which has just ended. Many graces were received and shared during the Holy Year. We strongly believe that the fruits of this holy season will continue to enrich the journey of faith of the Church in Europe.
The deafening noise of wars, ideological struggles, conflicts, cultural deviations and growing forms of social exclusion and poverty amplify the sense of bewilderment spread into European societies. However, we cannot forget that behind all this is the abandonment of the great values promoted and supported by the Gospel which have inspired European culture.
Today there is need to sustain hope, to look to the future with confidence, to renew the Christian memory that gave a human dimension to European history. In the practical experience of the Divine Mercy, lived during the Holy Year, is grafted the commitment of Europe’s Bishops for a New Evangelization, that can restore hope to the hearts and inspire new forms of solidarity.
This commitment is also intended as a concrete response to the proposal of Pope Francis present in the apostolic letter Misericordia et misera, published at the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. We seize with enthusiasm his invitation to strengthen our knowledge of the Word of God and our sacramental practice, especially rediscovering the sacrament of reconciliation.
In the coming months, the CCEE will be responsive in helping the Bishops’ Conferences to identify the best ways to respond to the various concrete proposals made by the Holy Father both in the ministry and the social commitment of every faithful and every local community. Adhering to the intuition of Pope Francis, we thus hope for a renewal of the face of the Church by means of a pastoral conversion that makes brighter a “Culture of Mercy” (cf. Misericordia et misera, 20).
We are grateful to the Holy Father who was inspired to summon us to celebrate this time of grace under the sign of mercy. We assure him of our filial closeness, our prayer and our desire to continue with enthusiasm the pastoral task that has been entrusted to us to serve the Church which is in Europe.

La Chiesa cattolica in Europa ha vissuto con gioia e speranza l’Anno Giubilare che si è appena concluso. Molte sono state le grazie ricevute e condivise durante l’Anno Santo. Siamo fermamente convinti che i frutti di questo tempo santo continueranno ad arricchire il cammino di fede della Chiesa in Europa.
Il rumore assordante delle guerre, delle lotte ideologiche, delle contrapposizioni, delle deviazioni culturali e le crescenti forme di esclusione sociale e povertà amplificano il senso di smarrimento diffuso nelle società europee. Tuttavia, non si può dimenticare che alla base di tutto ciò sta lo scollamento dei grandi valori promossi e sostenuti dal Vangelo che hanno ispirato la cultura europea.
Oggi c’è bisogno di sostenere la speranza, di guardare al futuro con fiducia, di rinnovare la memoria cristiana che ha dato sapore umano alla storia europea. Nell’esperienza concreta della Misericordia divina, vissuta nell’Anno Santo, s’innesta l’impegno dei Vescovi d’Europa per una nuova evangelizzazione, che sappia ridare speranza ai cuori e susciti nuove forme di solidarietà.
Questo impegno vuole essere anche una concreta risposta alla proposta di Papa Francesco presente nella lettera apostolica Misericordia et misera, pubblicata a conclusione del Giubileo straordinario della misericordia. Cogliamo con entusiasmo il suo invito a rafforzare la nostra conoscenza della Parola di Dio e la nostra pratica sacramentale, riscoprendo specialmente il sacramento della riconciliazione.
Nei prossimi mesi, il Ccee sarà sollecito nell’aiutare le Conferenze episcopali nell’individuare i modi migliori per rispondere alle diverse proposte concrete fatte dal Santo Padre sia nella pastorale sia nell’impegno sociale di ogni fedele e di ogni comunità locale. Aderendo alle intuizioni di papa Francesco, si auspica un rinnovamento del volto della Chiesa tramite una conversione pastorale che renda più luminosa una “cultura della misericordia” (cfr. Misericordia et misera, 20).
Siamo grati al Santo Padre che ha avuto l’ispirazione di convocarci a celebrare insieme questo tempo di grazia sotto il segno della misericordia. A lui assicuriamo la nostra vicinanza filiale, la nostra preghiera e la nostra volontà di continuare con entusiasmo il compito pastorale che ci è stato affidato a servizio della Chiesa che è in Europa.

L’Eglise catholique en Europe et «Misericordia et misera»

L’Eglise catholique en Europe a vécu avec joie et espérance l’Année Jubilaire qui vient de s’achever. Nombreuses ont été les grâces reçues et partagées pendant cette Année Sainte. Nous sommes fortement convaincus que les fruits de ce temps continueront à enrichir le chemin de foi de l’Eglise en Europe.
Le bruit assourdissant des guerres, des luttes idéologiques, des oppositions, des déviations culturelles, les formes d’exclusion sociales croissantes et la pauvreté ne font qu’amplifier le sentiment d’égarement si répandu dans les sociétés européennes. Toutefois, nous ne pouvons pas oublier qu’à la base de tout cela se trouve le détachement des grandes valeurs promues et soutenues par l’Evangile qui ont inspiré la culture européenne.
Aujourd’hui, il faut soutenir l’espérance, il nous faut pouvoir regarder à l’avenir avec confiance, renouveler la mémoire chrétienne qui a donné à l’histoire européenne un parfum humain. C’est dans l’expérience concrète de la Miséricorde divine, vécue en cette Année Sainte, que se greffe l’engagement des Evêques d’Europe en faveur d’une nouvelle évangélisation, qui soit en mesure de redonner de l’espérance aux cœurs et de susciter de nouvelles formes de solidarité.
Cet engagement se pose également comme une réponse concrète à la proposition du Pape François exprimée dans la lettre apostolique «Misericordia et misera», publiée en conclusion du Jubilé Extraordinaire de la Miséricorde. C’est avec enthousiasme que nous accueillons son invitation à consolider notre connaissance de la Parole de Dieu et notre pratique sacramentelle, tout en redécouvrant notamment le sacrement de la réconciliation.
Dans les mois à venir, le CCEE veillera avec sollicitude à aider les conférences épiscopales à identifier les meilleures façons possibles de répondre aux différentes propositions concrètes avancées par le Saint Père, aussi bien dans le domaine de la pastorale que dans l’engagement social de chaque fidèle et de chaque communauté locale. En suivant l’intuition du Pape François, nous souhaitons un renouveau du visage de l’Eglise par le biais d’une conversion pastorale qui rende plus lumineuse la « culture de la miséricorde » (cfr. Misericordia et misera, 20).
Nous sommes reconnaissants au Saint Père qui a eu l’inspiration de nous convoquer pour célébrer, ensemble, ce temps de grâce sous le signe de la miséricorde. Nous souhaitons lui assurer notre proximité filiale, notre prière et notre volonté de continuer avec enthousiasme la tâche pastorale qui nous a été confiée au service de l’Eglise qui est en Europe.

Katholische Kirche in Europa und “Misericordia et misera“
Die katholische Kirche in Europa ging mit grosser Freude und Hoffnung durch das Jubeljahr, das gerade seinen Abschluss fand. Viel Gnade wurde während des Heiligen Jahres empfangen und miteinander geteilt. Wir sind fest davon überzeugt, dass die Früchte dieser heiligen Zeit weiterhin den Weg des Glaubens in der Kirche in Europa bereichern werden.
Der Ohren betäubende Lärm der Kriege, die ideologischen Kämpfe, die Konfrontationen, die kulturellen Abweichungen und immer mehr Formen der sozialen Ausgrenzung und Armut haben in den europäischen Gesellschaften das Gefühl der Richtungslosigkeit verstärkt. Es darf jedoch nicht vergessen werden, dass all dem die Auflösung der wichtigen Werte zu Grunde lag, die das Evangelium förderte, die ihnen Halt gab und die die europäische Kultur inspirierten.
Heute muss man die Hoffnung unterstützen und den Blick mit Vertrauen auf die Zukunft, die Erneuerung der christlichen memoria lenken, die der europäischen Geschichte menschliche Züge gegeben hat. Zu der konkreten Hoffung auf göttliche Barmherzigkeit, in der wir im Heiligen Jahr gelebt haben, kommt das Engagement der Bischöfe Europas für eine neue Evangelisierung, die den Herzen neue Hoffung einzuflössen vermag und neue Formen der Solidarität anregt.
Dieses Engagement soll auch eine konkrete Antwort auf den im apostolischen Schreiben „Misericordia et misere“ enthaltenen Vorschlag von Papst Franziskus geben, welches zum Abschluss des ausserordentlichen Jubeljahrs der Barmherzigkeit veröffentlicht worden ist. Wir greifen mit Begeisterung seine Einladung auf, unsere Kenntnis des Wort Gottes und die Ausübung unserer Sakramente zu stärken, und entdecken so insbesondere das Sakrament der Versöhnung neu.
In den kommenden Monaten wird man die CCEE ersuchen, den Bischofskonferenzen zu helfen, die besten Wege zu finden, um auf die verschiedenen konkreten Vorschläge, die der Heilige Vater sowohl für die Seelsorge wie auch das soziale Engagement jedes Gläubigen und jeder lokalen Gemeinschaft machte, Antwort zu geben. Den Gedanken von Papst Franziskus folgend wünscht man sich eine Erneuerung der Kirche durch eine pastorale Umkehr, die eine „Kultur der Barmherzigkeit“ (vgl. „Misericordia et miseria“ aufleuchten lässt).
Wir sind dem Heiligen Vater dankbar, der diesen Gedanken hatte, uns zusammenzurufen, um gemeinsam diese Zeit der Gnade unter dem Zeichen der Barmherzigkeit zu feiern. Wir versichern ihm, dass wir als Söhne in unseren Gebeten und unserem Willen zu ihm stehen und weiterhin mit Begeisterung den pastoralen Aufgaben nachgehen werden, die uns im Dienste der Kirche in Europa anvertraut wurden.

«Będę głosił imię Twoje swym braciom» (Ps 22, 23)
Kościół katolicki w Europie z radością i nadzieją przeżywał Rok Jubileuszowy, który właśnie został zakończony. Wiele było łask udzielonych i otrzymanych podczas Roku Świętego. Jesteśmy przekonani, że owoce tego świętego czasu będą nadal ubogacać nas na drodze wiary Kościoła w Europie.
Ogłuszający hałas wojen, walk ideologicznych, konfliktów, napięć i zaburzeń kulturowych oraz wzrastających form wykluczenia społecznego i ubóstwa, wzmacniają poczucie zagubienia rozprzestrzeniające się w społeczeństwie europejskim. Jednak nie możemy zapominać, że u podstaw tego wszystkiego stoi rezygnacja z wielkich wartości promowanych i potwierdzanych przez Ewangelię, które zainspirowały kulturę europejską.
Obecnie istnieje potrzeba podtrzymania nadziei, patrzenia w przyszłość z ufnością
w odnowę pamięci chrześcijańskiej, która nadała ludzkie znaczenie historii europejskiej.
W konkretnym doświadczeniu Miłosierdzia Bożego, przeżywanym w Roku Świętym, potwierdza się zaangażowanie europejskich Biskupów w Nową Ewangelizację, która może na nowo wlać w serca nadzieję i inspirować nowe formy solidarności.
To zobowiązanie chce być również konkretną odpowiedzią na propozycję Papieża Franciszka, obecną w Liście Apostolskim „Misericordia et misera”, opublikowanym na zakończenie Nadzwyczajnego Jubileuszu Miłosierdzia. Przyjmujemy z entuzjazmem jego zaproszenie, by umocnić naszą znajomość Słowa Bożego i praktykę sakramentów, szczególnie odkrywając sakrament pojednania.
W kolejnych miesiącach, CCEE będzie starał się pomagać Konferencjom Episkopatów
w znalezieniu najlepszych sposobów, aby odpowiedzieć na różne konkretne propozycje Ojca Świętego tak w duszpasterstwie, jak i w zaangażowaniu społecznym każdego wiernego i każdej lokalnej wspólnoty. Opierając się na intuicji Papieża Franciszka, mamy nadzieję na odnowienie oblicza Kościoła poprzez duszpasterskie nawrócenie, które rzuci jeszcze większy blask na „kulturę miłosierdzia” (cfr. „Misericordia et misera”, 20).
Jesteśmy wdzięczni Ojcu Świętemu, który został zainspirowany, aby wezwać nas do wspólnej celebracji tego czasu łaski pod znakiem miłosierdzie. Zapewniamy go o naszej synowskiej bliskości, naszej modlitwie i chęci kontynuowania z entuzjazmem zadania duszpasterskiego, które zostało nam powierzone w służbie Kościołowi obecnemu w Europie.
